The Tigers finished second and faced Carlton again in the qualifying final and were beaten. Richmond rebounded against St Kilda in the first semi final before managing to defeat Collingwood in the preliminary final to take on Carlton again in the grand final. This time the Tigers roughed Carlton up to stop a repeat of and they took the victory by 30 points. In Richmond finished on top of the ladder for the week off, and they met North Melbourne in the second semi final and took the direct route to the grand final.
The Kangaroos returned, making it their first meeting in a grand final since in the VFA. And the Tigers would win their second flag in a row.
