The ultimate work phone. The essential smart work phone. Professional 4G feature phone. Stay In touch This is required. Do you already own a Cat Phone?
Which phone do you own? Terrordale - Swine are a good source but don't respawn fast enough. Had to search around the "village" for them too.
DM North is the best. Simply run straight in, go down the ramp, kill the hounds which yields usually 1. Hounds drop rugged leather, rarely thick leather, hides, and wolf leather or something of the sort.
NOTE: you do need the crescent key to get in unless you can pick locks. Comment by mcbacon Augustus gives a quest small and fast quest and then he opens his shop.
Good to sell stuff. And yes, plagued swines in Terrordale are very good for rugged leather. If you are farming alone. Else not enough mobs. Comment by Couldn't disagree more.
Plaguelands is 1, a pain of a flight to get to from almost anywhere, and 2, a bit of a ride to get up into that corner. I'm farmin Azshara, the blue dragon kin 'lites almost always drop rugged leather and sometimes 2.
When it's not that it's blue dragonscales, which gets snapped up on the AH on my server. Also got more than one loc with the dragonkin so easy to pass the respawn flippin between the two and still be gatherin. Comment by volcano Agreed. Farmed Rugged Leather in Terrordale in 1h 20min. No interruptions, fast respawn, a few other mobs easy to avoid plus, they're lvl 56, so they probably won't aggro.
Great for me, as Rugged Leather Stacks go for 40g on Lethon. Comment by Pachirisuneytor when i entered dire maul north, i only found that there were only two packs of dogs in the yard, 4 dogs each pack and there were no dogs in the second room, so i guess this may have changed cause i dont seem to find as many dogs as you people say.
As an 80 enhanced Shaman that isn't a major problem but for a player leveling through their 50's it could turn into an issue depending on what class they are.
Comment by cyberdreck Has anyone gotten a lot from ST? If you can get a group for Zul Grub there's a huge amount there. Comment by Pinochet Dire Maul North may not be desirable if you don't have the key, and you don't intend to farm out more than a couple dozen stacks. Comment by Go to the Yeti Cave in Winterspring at Start at the entrance and grab the first 4, you should be able to tag them all without having to run too far. From then on, you should be able to grab them in groups of in each section with 1 group of x2 yetis near the beginning.
Very low impact and, best of all, the yeti's considering they are humanoid drop silver and higher-value vendor items. Hope this helps Comment by I wanted to get my sham sham's leatherworking at before he hit outland. I've been having problems getting this leather together. Tried the yetti cave in Winterspring, but it was slow at level 58 as was the swines in Terrordale. After reading a few more posts I decided to try the Burning Steppes.
The Terror Wing path is full of dragonkin which can be farmed. I'm farming them now as I type this and after about 10 minutes I have a stack of rugged.
If you are like me and wanting your proffessions finished before you get to Outland this would be a nice place for leather workers needing to farm that last bit of rugged leather. Edit: I beleive some-one mentioned the respawn being rather slow. I just cleared a small area and started to write this.
After i went back the small area i had cleared out had respawned. And it couldn't of taken me 3 minutes or so to type this out. Comment by dire maul north is unbelievable Comment by Tested the Terrordale site with a level 65 feral druid. One timed hour of farming Plagued Swine got me: Rugged Leather x 96 average of 12min 30sec per stack Thick Leather x 13 Rugged Hide x 4 2g, 52s, 82c in sellable gray items see below Out of rest bouns.
As with most skinning mobs, the swine drop a bunch of gray items that don't stack well. When you run out of space, destroy the large ones and save the Ivory ones, as the Ivory vendor for 4. From the alliance flight point the ride to this site takes about seven minutes on a slow mount, five on a fast one.
There's a patrol consisting of several elietes on the path in the vicinity of Plagewood. If you try to just ride by them, you'll likely get stunned then killed. The eliete mentioned above is the Nerubian Overseer.
He's soloable at 65, but it was pretty close, and not something I'd recommend. Fortunately, he stays in a cave to the north most of the time, and you practically have to stand inside him to pull aggro.
The best spot for these is in a cave. The entrance is at , and the ramp to that entrance is at , under a minute to the south from both the Alliance Flight and the Horde Flight. Once again, this was one hour to the minute of timed farming, and I got: Rugged Leather x or an average of 11 min 20 sec per stack Thick Leather x 64 Rugged Hide x 11 Thick Hide x 7 Pattern: Chimeric Leggings Peerless Shoulders of the Eagle Obsidian Band of the Gorilla 7g, 86s, 88c in direct money loot Out of rest bonus again exp varies, as there's a range of levels here The previous claims that these spawn faster than they can be killed is accurate, even when there's horde competition about.
My suggestion is to do all the ones in the cave, run out, jump off the ramp, then kill your way back up. By the time you reach the entrance again, stuff will have started to respawn. After 25 minutes i've gotten my hands on nearby Rugged Leathers.
Just reset and go on. Comment by meigie After about an hour of farming in the yeti cave mostly inside the cave in Winterspring with my druid out of yetis i got: Rugged leather 46 Thick leather 4 Rugged hide. Indeed a good farming place. Comment by petomatick Or you could just simply farm ruined leather scraps, then make light of them, and after make them medium, then heavy, then thick, and at last, u got ONE rugged leather.
Tryed it out with my 66 undead rogue. Just for fun, cuz i was bored. Took me three hours to get one. If u whant a stack in this way, hehe u would have to play like this for 60 hours Fun to try out thought. The courtyard at the beginning of the entrance has tons of mobs that drop up to 2 pieces of Rugged Leather at a time. I highly recommend this spot as I farmed about pieces of leather in about 20 minutes.
The only problem is that you'll be locked out after the 5th instance reset but it'll make leveling your LW so much faster. Comment by Do u have to skin all the rugged leather or does something actaully drop from mobs? Comment by Tankofheals After farming the Yeti Cave in Winterspring for an hour or two a day I made these assumptions as to how long it would take to reach the desired amount of leather I needed. In one clear of the entire cave and the 2 Yeti standing just outside of it I roughly calculated that I was skinning this much leather.
Well, hope this helps in any way and happy hunting giant ice bear GooD LucK! I cannot for the life of me farm this cave without competing for hides. Comment by That yeti cave is at 65,42 btw, saw no one said the location. Comment by Cyriz Forget grinding around the world, head into Zul'Gurub that 60 instance in stranglethorn and skin the beasts there.
They usually drop rugged leather, mostly 2, with some thick in there as well. Comment by Hydarnes Dire Maul was always skipped by my toons when levelling up, as by the mids I was seriously gunning for 58 and getting to Hellfire Peninsula. Having only cleared it the once to get the achievement on my main, when my skinner decided to check the place out based on this thread, I thought I'd capture what's required to help others not so fluent with this instance.
Once at Dire Maul, follow the huge ramp up towards the building complex 3 Avoiding ogres is trivial. Follow the wide corridor as it doglegs to the East, and then you arrive at a long corridor that runs East-West. A narrower corridor is on the North wall - follow it, it curves to the East again, ending in the instance entrance for Dire Maul: East. Zone in. From where you are, looking ahead, you should see a large open area filled with trees, and an elevated surrounding area that is overrun with plants and warp elementals.
Be very careful not to fall down. To get back up to the elevated platform is a major pain. Pusillin is a small imp, just like the warlock pet, but he doesn't show an exclamation mark over his head, even if you have low level quest tracking enabled.
Instead, talk to him, and choose the speech option "Game? Are you crazy? Chase after him, killing trash that you encounter as necessary. The trash is trivial at level 80, but they do tend to stray in packs across the platform, so some killing is necessary. He stops again in a large room full of demons. Pusillin scuttles off, heading to the right under a platform, with a ramp at the back that takes him up onto the platform itself. The last speech bubble makes him targetable, but he summons a few trash adds and casts a buff on himself that reflects spell damage.
This time, work your way all the way around via the South side until you are back at the northwest corner, near where Pusillin began his annoying game of chase. Once again - don't fall down! This is actually a second entrance to Dire Maul: East, and by going through it, you are actually exiting the wing to rejoin the main game world. Go through. Don't go into this arena, of course, but instead if you look further to your right, to the North, you will see a short ramp leading up to a colossal wooden door.
Head towards this door. They are quite well camouflaged against the colour of the ground, but there are a good 25 - 30 hyenas there and they do, indeed, drop Rugged Leather at a quite excellent rate. Comment by I farmed a lot of these on the Isle of dread, Feralas. There a lot of chimearas there. They are lvl 60 elite, which i beleive were used for the opening of AQ I killed them on my lvl 80 warlock without any difficulty.
To get to the middle of the isle, you have to get to the east shore. In about the middle of that shore you will see an opening to the middle of the island, at the map it's about on the D of "dreaD". These mobs drop mostly 2 rugged leather each, which is quite a good drop rate, much better then in the yeti cave in winterspring, where i found only one a mob, and also a lot of thick leather in stead.
Once you killed them all, they take a while to respawn, say about 15 minutes. I combined this grind with my study. Every half an hour i logged in to kill them, then i studied for a bit more. Comment by Bokazi Dire Maul is by far the best place to farm rugged leather. You will need the Crescent Key in the East Court yard. Once you get that go to the north court yard, go down the first ramp on your left and you will see a lot of hyaenas. Farm them then leave and reset. There are other packs but you will have to kill more Mobs to get to them.
Each run takes about min and you'll get about 35 or so leathers. If you can't solo Dire maul then then Yeti cave is your best bet. Clear all the Yetis outside the cave then clear the cave and all the yetis outside will have respawned, its a pretty fast respawn rate some of the yetis in the front cave had already respawned.
The yeti cave just takes longer than Dire maul and you will also get thick leather at about 1 for every 3 rugged leather. Comment by Renzodal 3 best places I know to farm these are Dire maul near boss Guard Mol'dar there are like hyenas you can get quick in quick out only problem is that after few runs you get entered too many instances recently.
Go rampage slay yetis at winterspring. Ice Thistle Matriarch. Comment by Arno00 I farmed in the Yeti Cave in Wintersping, here are my results : I farmed for 40 mins then my inventory was full as a lvl 60 feral druid need to get my leatherworking skill to for the outland. I had no regen time always full life, no mana break and no waiting time because they respawn fairly quick and I'm only lvl Each Yeti give one item upon skining, so I killed yeti that's 1.
Hope it helps. Comment by Alexmcs DM North. No contest. A level 80 should be able to rip the place up in no time, especially if you bring a friend, and just about every mob there drops at a time all the bats, snakes, tigers, panthers, etc.
This was way faster than grinding out the leather on the Yeti's in Winterspring. Comment by Definitely Dire Maul North. The yeti cave in winterspring is fine if you're not able to clear the packs in Dire Maul North yet, but definitely slower and annoying with the freezing effect. Once you have your crescent key you can farm tons of rugged leather off the dogs in no time.
Lots of times 2 rugged leather per skin. Other times 1. A lot less often getting Thick Leather or Hides. You will run into the "You have entered too many instances recently" thing after resetting it so much, but it's fine. Take a bit to do this whenever you want and it's massive money for little effort. Only thing that sucks is sometimes Rugged Leather stacks sell for g on my server.
But once those clear and it's a good time to sell them I can get g a stack usually. Right now I have about 20 more stacks in my bank I'm waiting to sell at the right time as well. Comment by Turning this into a pair of pants clearly was not the best idea in the world. Comment by tubunuba As of patch 4. Comment by lulziams The mobs in Blasted Lands give the most of rugged leathers than anywhere These can be found near the Nethergarde Keep.
Took me about 45 minutes to farm the total of rugged leathers. Happy farming! I found the best place to finish leveling to 58 while getting enough rugged leather to get to at least was Blasted Lands. Comment by kromosoide at this time lv 85 , you can easily solo upper blackrock spire, just kill the dragonkins and the whelps blackrock stadium.
Sometimes they drop not 1 but 2 rugged leather! Comment by shookroon The tainted forest in blasted lands is a good spot to farm rugged leather. You can skin the bears and bats but be aware that there are lots of other mobs that will attack you.
Comment by gaosai Best place I found is Blasted Lands. Comment by Currently the best place to farm this is in Dire Maul North. Comment by moovie it's simple I killed all the yetis outside the cave then went in and killed them inside I farmed them with my 85 boomkin all were 1 shotted 98 mins S I first tried the gorillas in Un'goro and they also dropped rugged but the rate is only about 3 or 4 in 10 kills they are good for thick leather and respawn quickly.
There is fel-hound, boar, and basiliks. Comment by silvertears After a lot of searching and trying different hints from on here, I am surprised to say Dire Maul is where I hit pay dirt. It was great, I was thinking at first I might have come out there for nothing when I was seeing the low lvl of stuff. But if you look on your map at Dire Maul and go to the very back of the coliseums looking part all the way north the entrance there on the right.
Just go down in there to the pit and clear the hyenas. Very easy, not a lot of elites lvl 45 and a easy 46 boss it only took me like 10 minutes to kill, loot and skin all the hyenas. From one clear of just that pit I got as follows Dire Maul 1 clear of just the pit north down in the pit of Hyenas Rugged leather x29 Thick Leather x3 And of course random trash and a green or 2.
Almost all the hyenas skinned for 2 pieces of rugged leather. Then when done I just ran back out reset and wiped out the pit again. I would definitely say this is the place to go to farm rugged leather, very easy lvl 45 not elite mobs of the dogs, and a quick run right back out to reset and be able to do again and again.
Comment by claudekennilol Just wanted to say this is still the best place. And for those of you that might be confused, now that bliz has in game maps, DM north is labeled as Gordok Commons. Also 5 stacks of runecloth.
By bags were full with not just the leather, but greens and trash I made 25g from the trash Good luck :. Comment by jlong83 the Yeti's in winterspring were a good place to grind rugged leather All mobs drop rugged leather and its now specific for the level mob you are killing.
If you are actually farming leather at a higher level, it's not worth your time. Comment by Apathee Only higher level STV mobs reliably drop heavy leather, otherwise you will get significantly more medium leather. Keep west of the Loch until you're high enough level to handle the level mobs on the eastern side; you'll be less likely to skin pesky Ruined Leather Scraps instead of Light Leather.
The eastern camps also have fewer problems with having to clear non-skinnable mobs, like the trogs, kobolds, and various spiders on in the west. However, the western areas play nicely into some sideline Linen Cloth farming , making clearing the trogs and kobolds feel like less of a nuisance. Mining and herbalism are both good in Loch Modan.
DARKSHORE Darkshore is so crowded with skinnable mobs that it became necessary to create this map a bit differently, dividing the sections by levels rather than calling out individual mob types. Striders, bears, and cats roam the entire zone, as well as a band of underwater threshers off the coast of Auberdine. The levels get progressively higher further out from Auberdine, either south or east.
If you aren't afraid of a little water battle, the Threshers are a good camp for herbalists, as this is also a good area for farming valuable Stranglekelp. In general, the animals are more out in the open instead of right near the eastern edge, so it's good for herbalism but not ideal for mining.
You will also want to stay out of the undead and furlbog camps unless you have other business there, but this zone is so rich in skinnable targets this won't cause any hardship. The easiest way to think of this map is that the mob levels circle out from the Crossroads, with the lowest-level mobs being closest and the highest-level mobs being the furthest away.
Mining and Herbalism are both great here. Those choosing to do some linen farming can stick to the oases, with a good mix of skinnable mobs mixing with cloth-dropping centaurs.
Most of your Light Leather farming will go on north of Camp Taurajo, but if you want to stay in zone as you level, the mobs south of Camp T transition into Medium Leather. They aren't the best for targeted Medium Leather farming as they're well in the overlap zone.
Ren Recommends: The Barrens is home to Wailing Caverns, which has a long series of tunnels that lead to the dungeon entrance. These are full of elite Deviates. This should only be undertaken in a group at level, as these are full of elites, but you'll get Deviate Scale and Perfect Deviate Scale as well as Light Leather for your trouble.
There are a few other pockets of Pridewings, but these are out of the way and don't incorporate well into a good farming loop. Despite the lower start level of this zone, good leather farming starts at the sweet spot Level 21 with Pridewing chimera and Basilisks north of Sunrock Retreat. If there isn't much competition and you're getting good repop, you can stay right in that area until level 23 or Otherwise, you can go north along the road, killing Coursers on the way, and then hunt both Coursers and Moonstalker cats in Stonetalon Peak.
Take this way if you're a miner or herbalist, as there are plenty of opportunities for both along this route. In your mids, head down toward the Charred Vale to hunt Basilisks and Chimera. Ren Recommends: The Charred Vale may seem less than ideal because there are also a lot of Harpies in this area, but you can kill them to collect valuable Wool Cloth at the same time. There is also excellent mining and herbalism in this area.
However, they aren't high enough level to skin for Turtle Scales. The map pattern here focuses on the main road from Silverpine to Tarren Mill. The lowest level mobs are along the road, and the further you get from that road, the higher level the mobs become.
There are two hazards in this zone to be aware of: there is a large elite yeti that crosses between the caves and north of Hillsbrad Fields, and in the mountains north of Durnholde Keep, a pair of level 40 elite Gryphons patrol the path entrance to the Hinterlands. Herbalism is great in this zone, but mining is only fair. Stick around the area of the yeti caves, the road north to Alterac Mountains, or the mountains north of Durnhold if mining is a priority for you.
Ren Recommends: Horde will find this a much friendlier zone than Alliance, although there are few quests available. That said, Tarren Mill is a super popular area for world PvP, and you may find the area impossible to farm due to the sheer number of people in the zone.
Density isn't great and movement through the various waterways isn't always easy, but it's a target-rich environment, particularly if you have the ability to pull them out of the water.
